MEDIA RELEASE: The Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA) announces that WiseTech Global (ASX:WTC) has joined DCSA+, the association’s partnership programme, to help drive adoption of open digital standards across container shipping.
WiseTech is a leading developer of logistics execution software and supply chain technology solutions, including CargoWise and e2open, used by 46 of the top 50 global third-party logistics providers and 23 of the 25 largest global freight forwarders worldwide*. WiseTech sits at the operational heart of container shipping: when a box moves from factory to port to vessel to destination, WiseTech's platforms can manage the workflows, documents, compliance checks, and financial processes that make the journey possible. In joining DCSA+ as a technology partner, WiseTech aims to help accelerate the development and adoption of digital standards to enable greater interoperability and faster scalability through standardised integrations.
Moving a container from origin to destination involves a chain of handoffs – shipper, freight forwarder, inland carrier, port, ocean carrier, customs, consignee – each dependent on timely, accurate, consistently structured data. Today, that data flows through a fragmented mix of proprietary systems, bespoke integrations, and manual processes that add cost, delay, and error at every step.
DCSA's standards address this at the root – defining common data models and open APIs across the core processes of container shipping: bookings, shipment instructions, bills of lading, track and trace, IoT-enabled container location tracking, vessel schedules, customs documentation, and freight invoicing. The result is genuine interoperability: data entered once, flowing reliably across every party in the chain, without re-keying, reformatting, or reconciliation. DCSA+ extends DCSA’s collaborative approach to standards development to include carriers, technology providers, cargo owners, forwarders, feeders, and terminals, providing a seat at the table where the digital standards for container shipping are shaped, tested and adopted. Partners gain early access to emerging standards, integration support and the opportunity to help ensure standards work with real-world systems.
WiseTech has been among the earliest and most active implementers of DCSA standards since 2019, growing into one of the largest users of DCSA-specification carrier APIs in the industry. That experience, across hundreds of carrier-forwarder combinations globally, gives WiseTech a uniquely grounded view of where standards deliver and where implementation gaps create friction.
As a DCSA+ partner, WiseTech brings that operational reality directly into the standards development process, ensuring what DCSA publishes is what the industry can actually adopt – quickly and at scale. And when standards are embedded in widely deployed platforms like CargoWise and INTTRA, even smaller shippers and forwarders gain the same data quality and connectivity as the largest global 3PLs. Done right, standardisation raises the floor for the entire industry.
Ashley Skaanild, Principal Advisor Carrier Integration and Transformation at WiseTech Global, says: “Managing and monitoring logistics flows across the globe relies on clean and complete data. Standardised integrations help our customers and their carrier partners to achieve their goals faster and more effectively by removing friction at critical data handover points. As one of the earliest adopters of the DCSA standards in 2019, WiseTech extensively uses carrier Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) based on the DCSA standards. We are delighted to formalize our relationship by joining DCSA+ and to continue to work together to create open, interoperable standards that power seamless, end-to-end digitalization across container shipping.”
Mariana Bock-Losada, Chief Growth Officer, Digital Container Shipping Association adds: “Standards create value through widespread adoption, and welcoming WiseTech into DCSA+ is an exciting step forward on this front. A company of this scale and this committed to our standards sitting closer to how they are shaped sharpens our insight into what works in the ecosystem and extends the reach of every standard we publish. We are delighted to have them with us.”
