From disruptions due to COVID-related labor shortages to supply chain uncertainty due to war, sanctions and heightened geopolitical tensions, 2022 is shaping up to be another challenging year for global logistics companies.

In an environment where customer and commercial imperatives can put pressure on the need for speed, how do you ensure the quality and accuracy of your customs and cross-border compliance requirements are not compromised?

With over 5.3 million development hours invested in building our CargoWise platform, we are at the technological forefront in managing international and cross-border logistics, changes in trade patterns and evolving logistics regulations.

Our technology is purpose built to help you optimize export and import processes and get increased control over international compliance. Here’s a selection of the latest Global Trade Management and Compliance features added to CargoWise.

New Air Import messaging – URUGUAY

You can now submit Air Import messages to Uruguayan Customs, thanks to recent enhancements made to our Global Manifest module. Our new functionality includes the ability to submit, amend and cancel House Bill data, as well as submit partial and surplus arrivals, along with endorsements.

Just remember, before using the new functionality, you must load your certificate – issued by the authorized entity, Abitab or El Correo – and your company credentials – issued by Dirección Nacional de Aduanas – into CargoWise.

Craft Beverage Modernization Act (CBMA) Provisions enhancements – UNITED STATES

Under the CBMA, reduced tax rates and/or tax credits are applicable to importations of certain limited quantities of distilled spirits, beer or wine imported from each assigning entity.

To streamline CBMA processing, CargoWise now enables one or more CBMA controlled group names, foreign producer identifiers (FPIs), or allocation quantities to be stored against an organization. Additionally, it is now possible to also specify multiple FPIs for a given manufacturer in situations where that manufacturer is supplying different types of alcohol (for example, beer and wine).

New export only business number type – CANADA

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) recently indicated that the Canada Revenue Agency plans to restrict business numbers to either Import or Export. To ensure compliance, CargoWise has been updated with a new business number type – Business Number for Export, or BRE – which is available in the Details tab of an organization, along with the BRM (Import/Export) and other relevant number types.

When sending export declarations, CargoWise will now first look for a BRE business number. If found, it will be used when sending the G7 message to the CBSA, and it not found, the existing BRM type will be applied.

Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) cargo dues updates – SOUTH AFRICA

When containerized goods move through ports in South Africa, TNPA charges a fixed fee for the use of the facilities. At times, TNPA may issue multiple account numbers for the same organization, for different ports and transport direction.

To streamline processing, when TNPA account numbers are saved to the registry, CargoWise will now default to the cargo dues form, based on the login branch, port and direction. From this number, TNPA will be able to identify which costs to apply to shipments tendered.

What’s more, you no longer need to manually capture the cargo dues charges section on the form once the response is received from TNPA. This section will now automatically update with charges received (from the electronic response message), along with the description and amount per container, as well the relevant VAT calculations.

New Certificate of Origin (CoO) added – AUSTRALIA AND JAPAN

A CoO is an important international trade document that certifies that goods in a particular export shipment are wholly obtained, produced, manufactured, or processed in a particular country. They declare the ‘nationality’ of the product, and serve as a declaration by the exporter to satisfy customs or trade requirements.

Shipments that have ‘Origin’ and ‘Destination’ in Australia or Japan are eligible for preferential tariff treatment under the Australia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (JAEPA). Forwarders, exporters and manufacturers can now able to produce the JAEPA CoO document directly within CargoWise.
