The rules of trade are rewritten with every border. Requirements shift, regulations evolve and staying compliant means staying adaptable. CargoWise keeps pace with every change, so your shipments keep moving.

This month’s highlights include updates for the United States, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Canada and Italy – each designed to improve accuracy, efficiency and compliance in your customs processes.

Customs Quantity – Sending Fractions – UNITED STATES

U.S. customs brokers need precise quantity reporting for quota entries and duty calculations, but automatic rounding can cause discrepancies.

CargoWise has added a registry setting that allows users to send fractional quantities to Customs. Quota entries now send fractional quantities by default, eliminating discrepancies from automatic rounding. Non-quota entries continue to round by default but can be configured via registry settings to send fractional quantities when needed.

For U.S. customs brokers, this means fewer discrepancies in quota management and quantity reporting.

Behavior for discounts and deductions regarding import customs declaration charges – UNITED KINGDOM

Inconsistent treatment of invoice discounts cause customs value discrepancies and declaration rejections in the U.K. CDS.

CargoWise has updated how discounts are handled for U.K. CDS submissions. Discounts marked as "already included" on invoices no longer affect item price or customs value and are not transmitted to CDS. Discounts marked as "not already included" adjust customs value and are transmitted as deductions.

This change aligns CargoWise's customs value calculation with CDS requirements and reduces declaration rejections.

Token Refresh process for Passar Communication has been enhanced – SWITZERLAND

When communicating with Swiss Customs through Passar, system access relies on secure digital credentials called tokens. Previously, token refresh failures went unnoticed until tokens expired, disrupting message flow and risking message loss.

CargoWise now checks token validity hourly and triggers a refresh if the access token will expire within 12 hours or if the expiry date is empty. If a refresh request is pending for more than 30 minutes, users are notified. The system no longer attempts to refresh already-expired tokens.

SIMA charges now broken out by type – CANADA

Canadian customs brokers previously had SIMA charges grouped into a single category, making it difficult to track specific duty types or provide detailed cost breakdowns.

CargoWise now enables users to track Surtax separately from other SIMA charges, such as Anti-Dumping Duties (ADD) and Countervailing Duties (CVD). Each charge type appears as its own line item under deferred customs charges when invoicing. Separate charge types have also been added to the Disbursement Charge Code Override registry setting, allowing brokers to assign unique billing codes for each type of charge.

Italy Low Value (H7) Declaration – ITALY

High-volume ecommerce shipments into Italy require bulk declaration processing to avoid manual bottlenecks.

CargoWise has introduced a new module for submitting Italian Low Value (H7) declarations in bulk for consignments up to €150, where customs duties are waived. Users can now process declarations in batches rather than individually.

For forwarders and customs brokers managing ecommerce shipments into Italy, this means faster clearance and greater volumes.

Staying compliant across borders

CargoWise provides a single platform to manage customs requirements across different regulatory environments. Whether you're handling quota entries, bulk declarations or duty breakdowns, it's all in one place and updated as regulations change.
