With over 5.3 million development hours invested in building our CargoWise platform, we are at the technological forefront in managing international and cross-border logistics, changes in trade patterns and evolving regulations.

We have been busy building some new features that create efficiencies, reduce risk, and can help you stay compliant - so you and your team have more time to focus on the work that matters most.

Check out some of our latest updates that enhance CargoWise’s customs and compliance capabilities, from new split bond entry options in South Africa to automations that streamline US Craft Beverage Modernization Act filling processes.

New option to split entries by bond amount – SOUTH AFRICA

When shipping goods by road in South Africa, there are some important rules to follow. One of these rules is that you need a bond guarantee to move your shipment. This enables you to comply with the South African Revenue Service (SARS) requirement that the value of duties and taxes for any declaration requiring a bond, is less than the Remover’s bond amount.

To make things easier, instead of having to manually split up your invoice lines across different entry instructions, CargoWise will now automatically calculate when entries should be split and will create corresponding entry instructions for every new entry.

When declaring the bond amount, there are two ways to do it. If you only have a "Remover" (the person removing the goods), then they are responsible for the bond amount. But if you have both a "Remover" and a "Bond Holder" (the person responsible for paying the bond), then the Bond Holder is responsible for the bond amount.

Streamline CBMA filing changes – US

CargoWise has been updated to support the latest changes to the Craft Beverage Modernization Act (CBMA) filling process, as announced in CSMS 53698182.

Starting this year, the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) will handle CBMA claims, which were previously administered by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP). As part of this change, the process for CBMA claims has been updated. The reduced tax rate that was previously used to calculate IR Tax for entries claiming CBMA will no longer be applied. Instead, the CBMA claim will be handled separately by TTB.

Even though CBMA-related data is still sent to CBP as part of the Entry Summary, the full IR Tax rate will now be used in tax calculations. CargoWise has been updated to use the duty calculation date to determine which process to use – the existing CBMA process or the new 2023 process.

Participate in the Global Business Identifier Pilot – US

Are you interested in taking part in the new Global Business Identifier (GBI) pilot from the US CBP? This pilot - which aims to improve trade processes and replace the old and outdated Manufacturer/Shipper Identification (MID) number - can now be supported in CargoWise.

The MID number is currently used to track customs information, but it only includes the importer's name and address, and it is not a unique identifier. The GBI Pilot seeks to evaluate new organization references that can replace the MID number, making the tracking of customs information more efficient and effective.

To join the pilot, you need to submit three new GBI references to CBP: DUNS, GLN, and LEI. The DUNS is a nine-digit Data Universal Numbering System Number, the GLN is a thirteen-digit Global Location Number, and the LEI is a twenty-character Legal Entity Identifier.

New crypto secured container collection – FRANCE

We have extended our partnership with the S)One port community in France, so you can now receive and process Token Code for Trucker (TCT), a crypto-secure code designed to help you more securely collect containerized goods from the port of Le Havre.

Here is how it works: When an exit authorization is created for a full import container from the terminal in Le Havre, a TCT code will be generated automatically. This code is sent to you and the terminal operator and is then passed on to the road carrier who will pick up the container. This provides an extra level of security and helps to make sure everything goes smoothly.

To use TCT, you need to register with SOGET (the company that manages the S)One port community system). Even if you are already registered with SOGET for other messages, you still need to get set up for TCT notifications. Once registered with them, simply raise a CR9 request in CargoWise and add the Receiver code provided by SOGET to get started.

New mandatory booking number on Verified Gross Mass (VGM) messages – GLOBAL

Shipping lines have made it mandatory to include the booking number on electronic VGM messages, and CargoWise has been updated to help you meet this requirement. If a Carrier Booking reference is not entered, an error message will appear on the VGM form, preventing you from sending the message until the necessary information is added.

This new feature makes it easier to send VGM messages accurately and quickly, saving you time and reducing the risk of message rejection by carriers.
